The Haunted Palace, EP5 grabs stellar ratings again – international ratings even higher

SBS drama The Haunted Palace, Episode 5 aired in South Korea on Friday evening to still stellar ratings.

Data via Nielsen Korea shows the fifth episode of the hit supernatural K-drama grabbed 8.8 percent of the nationwide viewership last night, placing it in second place of all shows aired on free-to-view TV for all of Friday.

That rating was down from Episode 4’s audience share of 9.2 percent, but still an excellent performance.

In Seoul, interestingly, the Korean drama earned its lowest rating yet.

But even then, that was with an 8.2 percent audience share that placed it in second place for the day as well.

With ratings that good then, it will be interesting to see how Episode 6 performs later on tonight. Particularly as its Saturday episode usually earns lower ratings than the one airing on Friday.

International viewers’ opinions of The Haunted Palace after Episode 5

The Korean fantasy romantic comedy is still performing pretty well with international viewers as it moves ever closer to its halfway point.

Its rating on My Drama List (MDL) is at an 8.1 out of 10, which is a solid rating on that platform, and is the same as it has been earning since the K-drama premiered on April 18th.

But, it is over on Viki where The Haunted Palace is grabbing exceptional ratings with a 9.7 out of 10, averaged out from almost 1,800 people, increasing every episode, and with comments that are also extremely complimentary.

Comments like:

I am impressed with this K-drama, it is a comedy, thriller, drama, horror, love story and a fairy tale, about really deep and meaningful questions, and it is really fun to watch.

I like that the horror is not too horrory or too violent, so it is not distracting and the focus is still on the story.

The story is quite interesting, deep, … and … realistic 🙂 and fun. There are so many comical moments as well as extreme depth and some profound issues.

I sat down to watch the first episode, thinking I’d just “try it out” — and next thing I know, I’m completely hooked. The story pulled me in right away, the pacing never missed a beat, and the characters? I felt connected to them almost instantly.

The chemistry between the leads is magnetic, and the acting is so good it barely feels like acting at all. Add the stunning production value into the mix, and it’s clear this isn’t just another drama — it’s something special.

So, yep, The Haunted Palace is well-loved over on Viki, where it’s streaming by the way.

The Haunted Palace stars Yook Sung Jae, Kim Ji Yeon (aka Bona), and Kim Ji Hoon.

It airs every Friday and Saturday evening, with its next episode hitting later on tonight.
