The sequel to the hit 2019 film has been a long time in coming, although we did get a second season of the fantasy anime series of the same name back in 2021.

Along with the announcement of The Legend of Hei 2, a new key visual of Luo Xiaohei and Wuxian was also released via animation studio Big Firebird Culture‘s Weibo account last night.

It shows the two protagonists rushing somewhere, along with the message:

Wow! Announced so fast.

—Reunion awaits! Let’s meet at the cinema this summer!

As for the plot of The Legend of Hei 2, it follows on from the first film and goes like this:

Luo Xiaohei and his master, Wuxian, live peacefully in the village, and Xiao Hei has gradually adapted to life in the human world.

Two years later, however, the Yao Ling Guild is suddenly attacked and Wuxian and Xiaohei are dispatched on a mission to the guild.

Can Xiaohei withstand this unexpected trial? Faced with unforeseen enemies, what choice will he make?

Yep, that teases a move from a nice, idyllic slice-of-life donghua to one that’s full of conflict and action-packed, doesn’t it?

The Legend of Hei 2 cast and staff

Voice actors Shan Xin (who voices Luo Xiaohei) and Liu Mingyue (plays Wuxian) are also back from the first film to reprise their roles.

Chinese director MTJJ is back directing the second film along with co-directorGu Jie, and with the two directors writing the script again alongside Peng Kexin.

Check out the teaser trailer below, and look out for the animated film dropping in China on July 18th.

The animation on this one should be superb, as it definitely was in the first film. Hopefully, it will hit our shores soon after.
