Avex Pictures has announced an anime adaptation of the extremely cute The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies manga is now in the works.
The announcement came during Avex Pictures’ Anime NYC panel, followed by a short but sweet The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies teaser trailer, and the anime’s official website.
The trailer, which arrived in both Japanese and English language versions, comprises hazy shots of the manga’s magical girl Byakuya Mimori and its evil genius Mira, with text flashing across the screen saying things like “I couldn’t wait to see you. I’m happy you could make it“, and “Whenever I’m with you, I’m happy beyond words“.
Avex Pictures also announced a few details about the upcoming fantasy anime (aka Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai Shiteita in Japan).
The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant anime staff
Those details include the anime’s director Akiyo Ohashi (The Stranger by the Beach), Yuniko Ayana (Given series and movies) as the person in charge of scripts, and Haruko Iizuka (Horimiya) as character designer.
Studio BONES (My Hero Academia and The Case Study of Vanitas) is charge of anime production.
The anime is based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Cocoa Fujiwara.
It tells the story of magical girl Byakuya Mimori and Mira, the head of an evil organization, who meet when she attempts to destroy his world-destroying plans.
The problem is Mira finds himself falling in love with her, and every time she visits his feelings become stronger.
The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant manga comprises just 3 volumes
Unfortunately, it is likely we will only get one season of this wonderful anime adaptation as mangaka Cocoa Fijiwara, who was also the author of the Inu × Boku SS series, and the Dear series, died in March, 2015 at just 31-years-old.
The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies manga series she was working on at the time of her death sadly remains unfinished, with just three volumes published.
The last one posthumously.
The manga series has yet to receive an English translation but, with the The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies anime now on its way, hopefully that will happen.
