Cat lovers the world over will be thrilled with the premiere of the new supernatural comedy anime series The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today today.

After all, it isn’t every day you get to see a human-sized cat who is better at housekeeping and cooking than you are, right?

Along with today’s premiere of the new Studio GoHands anime, we also got a The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today creditless opening animation, just so we can enjoy that opening animation while also bobbing our heads along to that catchy opening theme song — Somei’s ‘Ureu Kado niwa Fuku Kitaru‘ (in English ‘Fortune Comes to a Worried House‘)

An interesting concept in and of itself, as the first episode of the anime does not feature the opening animation, so this is the first time we are seeing it.

Then again, the opening animation is adorably cute and more than a little joyous, so GoHands probably couldn’t wait until next week’s episode for us to be able to see it, eh?

What is The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today anime about?

The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today anime (aka デキる猫は今日も憂鬱 in Japanese) is being chief directed by Susumu Kudo (Minami Kamakura High School Girls Cycling Club), with Katsumasa Yokomine (The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses) as director.

Tamazo Yanagi (The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses) is in charge of scripts, and Takayuki Uchida (Hand Shakers) is character designer.

Studio GoHands (Princess Lover!) is in charge of anime production.

The anime is based on the popular manga written and illustrated by Hitsuji Yamada.

There are seven volumes of the manga out in Japanese, with six volumes also getting an English translation via Seven Seas Entertainment already, and a seventh one due out in January, 2024.

A sweetly comedic manga about a cat who cooks, cleans, and succeeds at adulting more than the woman who expected him to be a pet–anime soon!

Saku is an ordinary young woman who works long hours and lives alone with her cat, Yukichi. Yukichi, however, is not an ordinary house cat. For one, the temperamental feline towers over Saku and walks around on two legs. Instead of playing with toy mice, he scours supermarket flyers for good deals and keeps the house spotless.

With a pet like that, it’s hard to tell who’s taking care of who!
