I’m probably the biggest Studio Ghibli fan on the planet, and am thrilled every time a new movie is released. Creators of Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, Princess Mononoke and Kiki’s Delivery Service, sadly the studio just announced they’re on hiatus after founder and studio director Hayao Miyazaki decided to retire. But, there are still two new Studio Ghibli film to look forward to. One of which,The Tale of Princess Kaguya, has just had its official US video trailer released.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya was released in Japan at the end of 2013, but we in the west have yet to experience its delights. Directed by Isao Takahata (the same man who did My Neighbours The Yamadas), it stars Kengo Kora, Takeo Chii, Nobuko Miyamoto and Aki Asakura as the voice of Princess Kaguya.

The movie not only got stellar reviews from critics, it has also been nominated for the Japan Academy Prize for the year’s best animation. From what I’ve seen of it (I live in Asia, so have seen many clips of the film), it’s absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately for American audiences, as the trailer just released is a teaser trailer, you can’t tell much about the film. It being Studio Ghibli, though, I doubt it will disappoint.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya will be released in North America on October 17, 2014. Meanwhile, watch the video trailer below.
