The Whirlwind climbs high up Netflix Top 10 Non English TV Shows chart

The 12-episode Korean political drama The Whirlwind was released on Netflix on June 28th and, just a week after it premiered, it had already made its way high up the Netflix Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart.

According to the streaming platform’s latest data, which was released late yesterday, The Whirlwind climbed to #4 on the chart for the period July 1st to July 7th, 2024.

It earned that place due to being watched 1.8 million times, for a total of 16.2 million hours.

The Sol Kyung Gu and Kim Hee Ae-led drama was also in the Top 10 in 11 countries for the same period.

Those countries were Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Nigeria and the drama’s home country of South Korea.

The Whirlwind was one of two Korean dramas to make it onto the Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart last week, with Miss Night and Day on the chart for the third week — this time at #7.

The Whirlwind stars the aforementioned Sol Kyung Gu and Kim Hee Ae, alongside a supporting cast that includes Kim Mi Sook, Kim Hong Pa, Kim Young Min, Im Se Mi, Jeon Bae Soo, Jang Gwang and Park Geun Hyung.

It follows the prime minister and the deputy prime minister of South Korea, as they become involved in a political and legal mess due to the corruption of the country’s president.
