I don’t know why I didn’t expect Lady Gaga to be able to sing show tunes but, I just didn’t. Then, I discovered this. Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett singing ‘The Lady is a Tramp‘ and it is, quite simply, astounding.
Tony Bennett’s voice, even at age 85 (at the time, he’s now 88), is rich, a bit growly and so sexy.
And, as for Lady Gaga, she sounds so perfectly 1940s – sassy, loud, funny, playful, quirky and sweet — and so reminiscent of singers like Doris Day and Lena Horne.
But her voice? God, her voice. Clear, swingy, jazzy and so incredibly raw. And you realize, when she’s away from all the stereotypical pop stuff, she can really really sing.
Listen to Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett singing ‘The Lady is a Tramp’ in the video below and, I’ll guarantee you, you can’t just do it once.
