As someone who doesn’t listen to Christian music, I can honestly say until recently I’d never heard of British singer Vicky Beeching. She is, however, apparently very popular in the Christian music scene in the US and the UK. Or at least she was. Last month, however, Vicky Beeching came out as gay and, in a Christian world that’s still so conservative and homophobic compared to much of the rest of modern day society, it’s highly unlikely Beeching’s popularity will continue for long.
In an interview with Channel 4 news last month, Vicky Beeching talked honestly about growing up Christian and gay, why she lived in the American Bible Belt for so long, and what repercussions she’s expecting now that people know she’s gay. Watch it below.
It’s a powerful interview. Vicky Beeching is eloquent, intelligent and touching. And it made me go to her YouTube channel and subscribe.
After all, you don’t have to be Christian to enjoy beautiful music, and Vicky Beeching certainly writes and sings that.
That’s why I’m saying, whether you’re Christian or not, if you believe everyone should be treated the same regardless of their sexual orientation, or for any other reason why they might be ‘different’ than you, then throw a little support Vicky Beeching’s way.
