All any of my nerd friends seem to be talking about nowadays is the upcoming Marvel movie ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. While most are fans of the comic book series, some are also fans of the actor Vin Diesel, and its these people who can’t wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy to see just what Vin has done with his character Groot.
Groot, just in case you don’t know, is an alien humanoid tree. But, rather than dress Vin Diesel up as a tree in the Marvel movie, thus making him look a bit ridiculous, Marvel went the animation route and created the character that way instead. Vin Diesel then had the task of doing the motion-capture and the voice
In an interview with ITN Productions’ ODE, Vin Diesel talks about Groot and the difficulties of expressing himself with an extremely limited vocabulary (“I am Groot” is basically it). He says Marvel themselves have said “Groot is the strangest character Marvel has ever attempted to put on screen”), but he saw it as an interesting challenge.
