The Demon Hunter 2, Episode 45 insert song is freaking fire
While absolutely everything about the latest episode of the Chinese donghua The Demon Hunter 2 was superb — (The Demon Hunter, Episode 45) — let’s face it, that insert song that played towards the end of the episode was fire.
The song, which began playing at mark 15.55 minutes as Ning Yibu commits suicide by walking directly into the cursed sword Meng Chuan is desperately holding onto, and then continued playing throughout the rest of the episode, not only made that scene even sadder, but it has also now become my latest earworm.

Because that song has an addictive melody and, when you understand the lyrics, is also so damned perfect for that scene.
And, of course, so freaking sad.
Those song lyrics, by the way, go like this:
What scenes of beauty hold your heart’s delight?
To break the chains, and step into the light
A hot heart would be hard to close
A spark that hits the trees and grass
Has great devotion
Unburdened by the need to show its worthIs it sick not to stand with the majority
I don’t need to be told what’s right. I’m sober
I will vanish all the rotten. Call me the madness
It’s light last moment, while the next it’s ashesI’ll be the wildfire that never dies
To light up the world
And paint the world with my colors
Storms pass through in unknown corners
Is a fire that won’t go out
I’m everywhere when the wind blows
Even if I’m just a passerby, I want my name to be engraved
I want to be remember by you who are also passing by
A wildfire that won’t fade away
Chooses again to embrace itself
So who sings The Demon Hunter 2, Episode 45 insert song, and what is it’s title?
The Demon Hunter 2, Episode 45 insert song title and performer
The song’s performer is Li Ge (aka 戾格), and the track itself is titled 野火 or ‘Wildfire‘.
Interestingly, like the bangin’ insert song for The Demon Hunter, Episode 17, the song was not written especially for The Demon Hunter 2, but instead was originally released by Li Ge on October 22nd, 2022.
It was also uploaded to Spotify around the same time but, so far at least, has earned just over 86,000 plays in the last two years.
Let’s see if we can get that gorgeous song much higher than that, eh? (Listen via the Spotify widget below). Because, Ye Gods, it’s addictive.
Update: A month later, and Li Ge’s ‘Wildfire‘ has now been played almost 150,000 times so, yep, that’s a big improvement!
As for the donghua The Demon Hunter 2, the final episode of its second season streams next week and, no, I refuse to believe the utterly wonderful Ning Yibu is dead, don’t you?
