With the Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King film just a week away from release on Netflix, it is no surprise the streaming service is promoting the film as if its life depends upon it.

So much so, along with the recent character videos for Asta and Yuno, new Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King key art by character designer Itsuko Takeda has just come out today via the film’s official website.

The new key art shows protagonist Asta in what appears to be a fight to the death with antagonist Conrad Leto.

A man who is the deceased 27th Wizard King and who, along with other former Wizard Kings, has weirdly come back to life.

When is Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King premiering?

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King is the follow up film to the 170-episode Black Clover anime series, which ran from early October, 2017, to late March, 2021.

No more than a few hints about the premise of the upcoming film have been released, but we do know it will continue Asta’s journey to become the new Wizard King, with Yuno alongside him also battling for the same honor.

All while, apparently, having to deal with a slew of deceased Wizard Kings who have mysteriously come back to life, and are causing some major problems.

As usual, though, Asta, Yuno and all their friends work together to overcome them.

The Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King film is due to premiere in movie theaters in Japan on June 16th, with Netflix starting to stream the 1-hour-50-minute film at the same time.

If you missed it, Crunchyroll is currently streaming all 170 episodes of the original Black Clover series.

I would recommend you watch them all before you stream the follow-up film, or you will not understand much of the back story.

Crunchyroll explains the Black Clover plot this way:

In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any.

At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder’s magic. Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells.

Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!
