Wind Breaker, Episode 2 recap as Sakura begins to settle into town
Episode 2 of Wind Breaker, titled “The Hero of My Dreams” begins with Haruka Sakura, the main character, carrying an elderly woman on his back as they enter Kotoha’s restaurant.
While he has been press-ganged into helping the woman due to her “bad hips”, he flushes his usual bright red when she thanks him.
Kotoha, a friend of Sakura’s, serves them with her usual teasing remarks, also causing Sakura to blush.
The door then opens and another student, Akihiko Nirei appears. Or, at least, he trips over the doorstep and falls into the restaurant.
Nirei, like Sakura, is another first-year student starting his first day at the school, and he is soon telling Sakura about Bofurin and how everyone in town admires them.
It turns out, Nirei is a huge fan of the members of Bofurin, and today is his first day being one.
Sakura then tells him it’s awesome to be one of the heroes of justice, and he intends to be the one in the top spot.
After being shocked, Nirei leaves saying it’s his first day as a hero of justice, so he is going to patrol the town before heading to school.
Sakura comments to Kotoha that guys like that are all talk but, when it comes to the big fights, they usually chicken out. Kotoha chastizes him for making an assumption just based on Nirei’s looks.
Leaving the restaurant and walking through town, Sakura is accosted by almost every store owner trying to give him free food because of how well he did in the fight the previous day.
But a young woman comes running towards him asking for help and, when he heads down an alley, he discovers Nirei on the ground and about to be beaten up by several delinquents in a rival gang.
Apparently, Nirei had stopped them harassing a young woman, and so they had attacked him in response.
Even if Nirei is a terrible fighter though, he doesn’t give up and hangs onto one of the guys as they try to beat him.
That is when Sakura appears, and beats the four delinquents to a pulp.
Nirei then tells him he always wanted to be in Bofurin as, when he was in middle school, he was bullied by a group of kids and the one who saved him was a guy from Furin.
But now he feels lame because, even though he’s starting his first day as a member of Bofurin, he can’t fight like most of the other members.
Sakura remembers how, even though he was being beaten, Nirei refused to let go of the guy beating him and responds by telling him, no, he’s not lame.
Of course, Nirei is now a big fan of Sakura because of his fighting skills, follows him down the street asking him all kinds of questions, and then tags along while he heads to school for the opening ceremony.
He then offers to show him around town, and help him get all the way to the top of Bofurin.
At school, which is dilapidated and covered in graffiti, the two boys find their classroom, and meet some of the other members of Bofurin.
That includes Suo, who introduces himself to them, and congratulates Sakura for being the star of the previous day’s street brawl.
When the other students congratulate him on protecting the town, they ask him why he moved to Furin.
As he tells them he only came to the school as he wants to be the top person in Bofurin, the most dangerous guy in the school, Sugishita, arrives, throws a desk at Sakura, and the two begin to fight.
Yep, Sakura is in his element, and loving every second of it.
