6 To Be Hero X character concept videos showcase donghua’s vibrant art styles and quirky characters

A couple of weeks ago, a cute character concept video came out on the Aniplex YouTube channel promoting Loli, one of the To Be Hero X donghua’s characters and its sixth-ranked hero.

Since then, that has been followed up with more concept videos for five other characters — The Johnnies (aka Little Johnny and Big Johnny), Lucky Cyan, Ahu, E-Soul, and Nice. (watch all six below)

Each video, of course, features the donghua’s utterly stunning art style (different for every character), its vibrant colors, and amazing mix of 2D and 3D animation.

Yes, for that awesome looking animation and art style alone (although I am sure I’ll discover many more reasons), I cannot wait until To Be Hero X releases. How about you?

Each video also includes a “character episode theme song” (nice idea, and all of them are bangin’!), which is why the music featured on each of them is different, and with each character obviously having markedly different personalities.

Along with the character concept videos, there is also a 3 1/2-minute Chinese-language Voice Actors and Composers Video out (below), which gives us an even closer look at what we can expect.

And it looks amazing!

Production details for the To Be Hero X donghua

The incredible looking donghua is being joint-produced by Aniplex, BeDream and Bilibili — so it is a joint Japanese-Chinese production.

To Be Hero X is being animated by Chinese animation studios Pb Animation (The Daily Life of the Immortal King), Paper Plane Animation (No Doubt in Us) and LAN Studio (Link Click).

Fabulously, Li Haoling, the director of To Be Hero and To Be Heroine is also back directing To Be Hero X, while mega-successful Japanese composer Hiroyuki Sawana (Attack on Titan and The Seven Deadly Sins) is composing the donghua’s main theme.

To Be Hero X is scheduled to premiere some time in 2025 (sooner, hopefully, than later!), and will be streaming on Bilibili in China, on Fuji TV in Japan, and on Crunchyroll in much of the rest of the world.

Until then, you can keep up-to-date with the latest info on To Be Hero X via its official X channel.

But if these character concept videos and the voice actors/musicians video are anything to go by, this one could very well be one of the standouts of 2025.
