The ongoing Korean rom-com Second Shot at Love, Episode 4 grabbed the show’s highest nationwide rating yet last night.

This after hitting its lowest rating for Episode 2, then climbing slightly for Episode 3.

When Episode 4 of the tvN drama aired last night, however, it appears those who previously left it have now returned.

And brought friends.

That nationwide rating on Tuesday night, via Nielsen Korea, was 3.68 percentup from Episode 3’s 3.18 percent on Monday night, and even higher than the K-drama’s first rating of 3.35 percent for its premiere on May 12th.

Plus, while the Korean drama did not earn its highest rating from viewers in Seoul last night (that was 4.34 percent for Episode 1), it did still earn even higher ratings than those nationwide, with 3.81 percent of the Seoul viewership.

As someone who loves that Second Shot at Love is placing the spotlight on South Korea’s society-invasive alcoholism problem, without doing it in a dull or obviously judgmental way, I could not be more thrilled to see the show continue to pull in more viewers.

Second Shot at Love‘s international viewers comment after Episode 4

Meanwhile, while some people on social media have been commenting they are dropping the drama after Episode 4 as the emphasis on alcohol is something they don’t like (which is odd when, going into it they knew it was about alcoholism), others are still very positive about what they are watching.

One viewer commented after Episode 4 of Second Shot at Love:

The tonal shifts in this drama can be jarring (between comedy/drama), but the dramatic moments in ep 4 were spot on for me. Getting help for alcohol dependence or abuse is never easy.

while another perfectly points out why the Korean drama is so well-written and acted. And why it is an important commentary on South Korean society:

There is so much education going on… from the start animation… bumping into the glass.. The ML gives a speech about functional alcoholics… and the FL calls off the wedding because she chose alcohol over her drinking buddy fiancee, straight to his face, because “ALCOHOL IS A PART OF SOCIAL NORMS”.

There you go. It is all out in the clear. FL is a functional alcoholic with a job and gets a little “higher” during the day and plastered at nights and weekends, like many people do, and is unwilling to quit. SO now what… ?

THERE ARE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE LIKE HER OUT THERE. causing car accidents and other accidents at work etc, overloading the medical system, and unwilling/unable to reproduce. So now what… ?

And family issues, mom living with an alcoholic for so many years… Thinking that people dancing and singing is CRAZY…. the slimey enables 🙂 And the sneaky addiction – fills dad’s glass then immediately hers, and says: COMMON DRINK WE NEED TO CONSOLE DAD.

I strongly support this Kdrama. I think it is a wonderful piece of art and social commentary, it is done very very well, the acting and script are amazing. No time wasted. It keeps rolling.

The next episode of Second Shot at Love will air on May 26th, while the first four episodes are now streaming via Viki internationally — and earning a 9.3 out of 10 over there, as well.
