Tigers Sniff the Rose C-drama confirmed – with perfect pairing as Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui reunite for 3rd time

Well, this is an incredibly welcome announcement for fans of either Meng Zi Yi or Li Yun Rui (or, like me, of both).

The web novel “Shang Gong Zhu” (尚公主) by Yi Ren Kui Kui (伊人睽睽) has finally been confirmed as getting a drama adaptation and, yep, it stars Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui as the leads.

The drama is to be called Tigers Sniff the Rose, and will be the third time the two Chinese actors have worked together, as both had supporting roles in Parallel World in 2023, and then co-starred as the main leads in Blossom in 2024.

Their roles in Tigers Sniff the Rose then will be their second main pairing.

And a very welcome one indeed for their legions of loyal fans who, by the way, have been spreading rumors about this latest reunion for months and, boy, were they correct.

Praise whichever god you believe in, eh?

The drama adaptation was confirmed earlier today via Tencent Video, along with an announcement poster and the message:

The noble-born lady Mu Wan and the talented young man from a humble background Yan Shang join hands in mutual support.

What binds their palms together is not only a life-and-death oath to advance and retreat as one, but also a shared aspiration to bring peace and clarity to the realm.

Watch as they fight fierce tigers side by side and vanquish evil and treachery.

So, yep, written by an amazing screenwriter, and directed by the wonderful Zoe Qin who did a bang-up job with both seasons of Lost You Forever.

Honestly, could we have asked for anything better (?) because I am a bit lost for words I am so ecstatic about all of this.

For those who haven’t read the novel, The Tigers Sniff the Rose plot, by the way, goes like this:

Princess Danyang/ Mu Wan Yao is ordered to leave Chang’an and journey to Lingnan to pray for her deceased mother.

On her return trip, her carriage axle breaks on a mountain path, where she serendipitously encounters the scholar Yan Shang, who is returning home from his humble work at a rural school.

Amidst the mountains of Lingnan, the two develop mutual affection through their shared struggles. Later, with the princess’s help, Yan Shang enters Chang’an’s political arena, where he quickly rises to prominence while befriending a group of talented and ambitious young men.

When the nation faces internal strife and external threats, Yan Shang charges ahead without fear, joining forces with the princess to eradicate corruption and restore peace.
