C-drama ‘The Tale of Rose’ wins Best Adapted Screenplay at Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Awards 2025
The 2024 Chinese drama The Tale of Rose has won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Shanghai Television Festival Magnolia Awards 2025 (aka Shanghai International Television Festival).
It was adapted by screenwriter Liu Yi Fei (Sunshine by My Side) and Wang Si from the novel “The Story of Rose” (玫瑰的故事) written by Yi Shu (亦舒).
The Tale of Rose beat out four other nominees for the award — City of the City, Romance in the Alley, Escape from the Trilateral Slopes and To The Wonder.
The 38-episode drama, which stars Crystal Liu, Tong Da Wei and Wan Qian aired from June 8th, 2024 to June 22nd, 2024 on Tencent Video and WeTV.
Its plot goes like this:
Born into a family of scholars, Huang Yi Mei (played by Liu Yi Fei) grew up surrounded by love and care, displaying artistic talent from a young age.
As she enters the workforce, she quickly earns recognition and falls in love with her business partner Zhuang Guo Dong (played by Peng Guan Ying).
However, they ultimately miss their chance to be together. This professional experience help her gain a clearer vision for her life, prompting her to return to academia for further studies.
After graduation, she marries her senior classmate Fang Xie Wen (played by Lin Geng Xin). Yet, as their life paths diverged, they eventually chose to divorce.
Huang Yi Mei then embarks on an entrepreneurial journey, carving out a successful career in art curation. During this time, she meets her soulmate, Fu Jia Ming (played by Wallace Huo), only to learn he has only a few months left to live.
