As the Chinese drama world continues to push out drama after drama featuring actors with average performance skills at best, Veil of Shadows is one of those that is heading towards us next.

Joseph Zheng and Ju Jing Yi‘s new wuxia drama Veil of Shadows has just exceeded 1 million reservations with no premiere date yet announced.

The Chinese drama, which also stars Chen Du Ling and Tian Jia Rui, is one of those dramas that features a weak cast in that most of the main and main supporting actors only have adequate acting skills (although Ju Jing Yi does have some skills) but, for those drama fans who like a pretty face above all else, this one will likely suffice.

Veil of Shadows exceeding 1 million reservations was celebrated on YOUKU’s Weibo account today with the release of a vibrant new poster, and the comment:

Congratulations on Veil of Shadows surpassing 1 million pre-registrations#!

Ripples fold into countless layers, mysterious wonders emerge from the waves.

More excitement awaits you on YOUKU—stay tuned for the grand premiere! #月鳞绮纪#

The upcoming C-drama is directed by Edward Guo (Cry Me a Sad River and the End of Endless Love).

Its plot looks like this:

Lu Wu Yi (played by Ju Jing Yi), the youngest nine-tailed fox of the organization Wu Xiang Yue, is on a mission to find the great demon Xiao Wei.

Disguised as a priest, she enters Wei Manor in Luo’an and discovers that others are also hunting Xiao Wei.

Among them are Wu Shi Guang (Joseph Zeng), a vengeful demon; Wu Wang Yan (Chen Du Ling), her cunning nine-tailed fox sister; and Ji Ling (Tian Jia Rui), an innocent-looking priest with a mysterious past.

All of them seek the Dragon Deity’s power, but their motives vary: some want to protect, others to kill. As they navigate battles, friendships, and romance, they face obstacles and make sacrifices to protect peace and change their fates.

For me, while the plot sounds interesting, it will likely be an “avoid” (although I will check out the first episode) as Chen Du Ling, one of two Chinese actresses I cannot watch due to their mediocre acting skills, is one of the main leads.

You may think differently.

It is, however, a reunion of actors Chen Du Ling and Tian Jia Rui from Fangs of Fortune, so if you were a fan of that drama (I was not due to several poor performances and the poor writing destroying the drama mid-way through) you may enjoy this one.

We’ll keep you posted as Veil of Shadows heads towards its likely soon premiere date. Just in case it is your thing.
