The martial arts donghua A Portrait of Jianghu: Bad Guys, Season 7 is finally on its way, with Tencent Penguin Pictures releasing an official trailer for the upcoming series today (watch below), while also confirming a release date some time in March, 2025.
Along with the video, a message asks:
The four corpse ancestors have gone into partnership. Did they successfully set up shop together?
A new A Portrait of Jianghu: Bad Guys, Season 7 visual is also out featuring several of the main characters who all look like they may have had a bit of a makeover what with those new outfits.
A Portrait of Jianghu: Bad Guys details
Season 1 of the long-running donghua premiered on July 31st, 2014, so well over a decade ago, and then ran through August 27th, 2015 with 54 episodes ultimately released.
Season 2 came out in July, 2016, with Seasons 3 through 6 appearing from late 2018 to March, 2023.
The final episode of Season 6 then hit on May 11th, 2023, so it will be almost two years between Seasons 6 and 7 before new episodes premiere.
Quite a while to wait, eh?
Especially as A Portrait of Jianghu: Bad Guys, Season 7 was originally scheduled to premiere last year, but was then postponed in November last year.
Of course, the donghua’s animation studio, Beijing Rocen Digital Technology, has also been busy creating Shen Mu (Tomb of Fallen Gods), and Xiuluo Wu Shen (Martial God Asura). So, yep, busy.
Tencent describes the series’ plot like this:
When Li Xingyun was a child, his family was tragically wiped out, and he was left to roam the Jianghu (martial arts world) with Li Huan. They unintentionally encountered Lu Youjie and his daughter, but Lu Youjie was being pursued by the black and white imperials of the Xuanming Sect.
Both Lu Youjie and Li Huan perished, but before dying, Lu Youjie entrusted Li Xingyun and his daughter, Lu Linxuan, to the care of the notorious figure, Yang Shuzi of the Unrighteous People.
Several years later, Li Xingyun and his junior sister, Lu Linxuan, left the mountains to train and encountered the mysterious organization, the Unrighteous People, led by its founder, Yuan Tiangang (the Unrighteous Lord), along with his follower, Shangguan Yunque.
They also encountered the five Yama Kings of the Xuanming Sect, Zhang Zifan from the Tongwen Academy, Ji Ruxue, Xuan Jingtian, and Miao Chengtian from the Huanyin Hall, among other key figures from major sects.

And yep, you can tell the latest season of the popular Chinese animation is likely to be popular as, just 24 hours after the trailer came out, it already had almost 12,000 views.
