In the latest 9-nine-: Ruler’s Crown visual, we can see (left to right) Miyako Kujou, Sora Niimi, Haruka Kousaka and Noa Yukki in the foreground, with Kakeru Niimi leaning against the torii gate looking on.

If you look closely, you will also see Sophitia hovering in the air in front of Kakeru.

All six of them look incredibly happy to be there.

Along with the visual came this comment:

Shiromitsugawa City was an ordinary town. The day the sacred treasure was destroyed, Everyday life quietly and surely began to waver.

The boys and girls who have awakened to their “supernatural powers” now become embroiled in a “strange fate.”

“What future will their choices lead to…?”

9-nine-: Ruler’s Crown production details

The anime adaptation of Japanese visual novel studio Palette’s visual novel 9 was announced in 2024 with the title 9-nine-: Ruler’s Crown (aka 9: Ruler’s Crown).

The anime series is being directed by Kouichi Oohata (Maken-Ki!), with Kosuke Koremizu in charge of series composition, and Saori Sakiguchi (Number 24) and Fumiya Uehara designing the characters and serving as joint chief animation directors.

Studio PRA (Tasokare Hotel) is animating.

The visual novel itself is published in several parts in English via Steam, and with an overwhelmingly positive rating from almost 1,500 players.

The Steam description talks about the 9-nine-: plot like this:

The scene: Shiromitsugawa, a run-of-the-mill college town that has launched several failed attempts to drum up tourism and revitalize itself, including sponsoring a high-budget-but-poorly-written anime based on local folklore. A storm is about to descend on this sleepy town.

We follow Kakeru Niimi, a man who can be a bit curt at times but who has a strong sense of responsibility and a kind heart.

But Kakeru’s ordinary life is thrown into chaos after the local shrine’s sacred relic shatters. In the wake of this event, several young men and women awaken to superhuman abilities.

What was once a run-of-the-mill life in a run-of-the-mill town soon turns into a quest to track down a superpowered serial killer before they can strike again.

Check out more information about the upcoming anime on its official website.

Its first trailer, including the 9-nine-: Ruler’s Crown ending song, was released two weeks ago. You can watch that below as well.
