C-drama ‘In the Moonlight’ filming ends – releases wrap photos, stills and confirms full cast

There are so many amazing looking historical romance C-drama’s heading our way in the next few months, I am starting to hyperventilate about how many dramas I still need to finish.

Case in point, Tencent Video’s In the Moonlight, which officially wrapped up its filming this week.

Okay, it will probably be 2026 before this one hits, but still. How on earth do you find time to watch every Chinese drama you end up viewing, as it’s freakin’ killing me?

Especially when two of my favorite newer Chinese actors are starring in this one — Wang Hong Yi (who plays an amazingly vile villain in The Legend of Heroes), and Bao Shang En (the adorable and very feisty female lead in The Legend of Heroes).

With In the Moonlight wrapping filming today, of course, we got photographs from the wrap ceremony, but we also got a slew of stills from the drama itself.

Stills with every actor in them looking particularly freaking regal as well! (above and below)

Along with the stills, Tencent commented about the plot:

“A destined meeting—moonlight embraced in arms;
Through war’s harsh winds, we’ll honor this land.

This is the ultimate forbidden-desire historical romance we’ve been waiting for!”

The first In the Moonlight stills were accompanied by Tencent confirming the Chinese drama’s, supporting and guest characters, and their actors, along with their Weibo accounts, if they have one.

A slew of wrap photos from the end of filming also dropped.

Full cast of Chinese drama In the Moonlight

That full cast looks like this… and, yes, I am interested to see Bao Shang En and Wang Hong Yi reunited after The Legend of Heroes, aren’t you?

Particularly as it appears, instead of his often villain roles, Wang Hong Yi might actually be playing a proper hero for once. Yay!

As for the drama’s plot, this is the short version:

The fallen princess Li Yaoying (played by Bao Shang’en) is forced into a political marriage and exiled to a foreign land.

In a life-or-death moment, she is rescued by Luo Jia (played by Wang Hongyi), an ascetic king devoted to serving the gods. Thus, the wheels of fate begin to turn.

A single glance beneath the round moon over the desert sands becomes a lifelong bond of love. From that moment on, they stand together to bring peace to the land.

Amidst the chaos of the times, their love endures. As the moon shines thousands of miles away, they know—they are not alone on their path

Enjoy all the lovely piccies released today because, Ye Gods, that’s a pretty cast. And I will be back with more information when the C-drama’s post-production ends, and we get a firm premiere date.

Until then, you can reserve In the Moonlight on Tencent Video China, if that’s where you will watch it.
