Saturday evenings are a crazy time for dramas in South Korea, with seven of the current top K-dramas airing within a few hours of each other, and some in competing time slots.
Take the music-themed Castaway Diva, Episode 9, which aired on tvN at 21:20 (KST) on Saturday night.
That drama directly competed against KBS2’s Goryeo-Khitan War (which earned its highest ever ratings last night), as well as against the first halves of The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract on MBC, and My Demon on SBS.
Looking at those competitors then, it is amazing the ratings for Castaway Diva, Episode 9 were as good as they turned out to be.
Ratings for Castaway Diva, Episode 9
According to Nielsen Korea, Castaway Diva‘s nationwide rating on Saturday night was 7.31 percent, which was down from its previous episode’s 8.68 percent rating, but still a solid ranking.
In Seoul, the drama earned 8.36 percent, which is also down from Episode 8’s rating of 9.35 percent, but still nothing to be ashamed of.
Especially as, even with lower ratings, Castaway Diva was still the #1 most-watched TV show on cable TV on Saturday.
In addition to the K-drama airing on tvN, it is also performing extremely well on Netflix worldwide.
According to that streaming platform’s latest data, Castaway Diva has now been on its Top 10 Most-Watched Non-English TV Shows chart for all three weeks it has been airing.
With the latest Netflix data due out next Tuesday, there is also a good possibility Castaway Diva will be on the chart for a week four.
Castaway Diva stars Park Eun Bin, Kim Hyo Jin, Chae Jong Hyeop, Cha Hak Yeon, and Kim Joo Hun.
Its next episode airs on tvN in South Korea tonight at at 21:20 (KST), with Netflix streaming it worldwide.
