The space-themed anime Edens Zero, which is based on the manga series by Hiro Mashima, is getting a second season.
That season was announced yesterday on the anime’s official Twitter account.
Edens Zero Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2023.
In celebration, a new Edens Zero Season 2 visual was released featuring Shiki, Rebecca, Happy as well as all the other main and supporting characters. (see above)
No word yet on who will be directing the anime as Yūshi Suzuki, the director of Season 1, died late last year at just 40 years of age.
Last season’s chief director Shinji Ishihara may direct the new season, or a new director may be hired.
The same goes for the voice cast for Season 1, with no mention yet whether all voice actors will return or just some of them.
We will keep you updated as soon as we find out.
Kodansha Comics publishes the manga series in English both in print and digital formats.
The publisher has this to say about the plot:
At Granbell Kingdom, an abandoned amusement park, Shiki has lived his entire life among machines. But one day, Rebecca and her cat companion Happy appear at the park’s front gates. Little do these newcomers know that this is the first human contact Granbell has had in a hundred years!
As Shiki stumbles his way into making new friends, his former neighbors stir at an opportunity for a robo-rebellion … And when his old homeland becomes too dangerous, Shiki must join Rebecca and Happy on their spaceship and escape into the boundless cosmos.

The first season of Edens Zero premiered in Japan in April, 2021, with Netflix picking the series up to add to their anime line up beginning in August.
