Eps 1-3 of Wu Ni (Martial Inverse) premiere – at 10 minutes per episode, it’s a fun watch

Feng Hao vowing revenge on the arrogant master who injured his father

New Tencent Penguin Pictures-produced fantasy martial arts donghua Wu Ni (aka Martial Inverse or武逆) has just premiered on WeTV, with the first three episodes out — and Episode 1 free-to-watch without a subscription to the streaming platform.

All 45 episodes (according to Chinese news media) will be released exclusively on WeTV in the west.

The new 3D-animated donghua is animated by Quyue Tech and is based on a web novel by author Just a Shrimp, which has the massive number of 2028 chapters out in Chinese, and is now finished publishing.

Martial Inverse is a novel that gets mixed reviews across the Internet, as some are commenting the plot is full of cliches, and that it has a very similar plot to the superior Battle Through the Heavens, while others say it is fast-paced and fun and the characters are relatable.

Martial Arts 3D-animated donghua follows 2D-animated adaptation

It is also worth noting, Martial Inverse has already had a 2D-animated donghua released, with its the first of its 12 episodes coming out in 2022, and with five seasons currently out for a total of 60 episodes.

That series was loved by donghua fans for its stylized art style, nicely-written scripts, and protagonist who is a little bit nicer than he turns out to be in the original novel.

The new 3D-animated Martial Inverse series is not even remotely similar to that, however, as it features a much faster pace (I have watched all three of the first episodes), and a much more shallow plot.

But, if you are looking for a fun, quick donghua hit, this one may still hit the spot.

Martial Inverse plot

As for the Martial Inverse plot, it goes something like this:

On the Sky Martial Continent, the strong are the most respected.

That is why the young master of the Feng family, Feng Hao, with his weak physique and unable to awaken his Sky Martial Vortex  is considered to be a waste of spiritual herbs!

After an altercation with a would-be master who badly injures Feng Hao’s father, Hao becomes angry and tells the arrogant master he will become stronger. And will defeat him within three months.

Not long after, while cultivating, Feng Hao’s body suddenly changes to a form that will allow him to cultivate much faster than anyone else.

Now it’s time for him to enter a martial arts competition and show the arrogant master what he is capable of doing.
