Hitomi Ueda cast as Surena Lysandra in From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman

Hitomi Ueda gets another major voice acting job

Yet another cast member has been announced for the upcoming fantasy action adventure anime series From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (aka Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru).

The latest cast announcement follows on from last week’s Nao Toyama as Aleucia Citrus announcement.

This time it is the naming of Hitomi Ueda, the incredibly successful voice actress who will be voicing Surena Lysandra.

The very busy Hitomi Ueda, who also plays Yoshino in the recently premiered Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii, commented about her pleasure playing Surena:

Actually, I saw the manga ‘From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman’ in an advertisement and was attracted to Beryl, so I had the opportunity to read it. ……!

So I was really happy not only to be able to take part in the audition, but also to have the opportunity to meet Surena in this way!

I will try my best to express her straightforwardness, being a strong person but never forgetting to be polite to her teachers! I look forward to working with you!

The background for Surena Lysandra was also given:

She is one of only a few adventurers of the highest rank in the world. A twin-sword wielder known by the name of ‘Risandera of the Dragon Twin Swords’.

Surena was raised in Beryl’s family as a child, where she learnt swordsmanship from Beryl. Because of this, she feels a great debt of gratitude to him.

Along with that information, Surena’s cool character designs were released (see below).

A short character video features the excellent acting you can expect from Ueda and her superb voice.

The anime’s production committee has also set up a nicely designed and very informative website that easily translates into English via pretty much any decent translation plugin.

The upcoming anime is based on the hit light novels by Shigeru Sagasaki and Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. The novels themselves have sold more than 5.5 million copies so far, so I’m guessing the anime should be as popular.

It is being directed by Akio Kazumi (director of Loner Life in Another World, and animated by studios Passione (Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf) and Hayabusa Film (Loner Life in Another World).

The fantasy anime is currently scheduled to premiere in April, 2025 via TV Asahi in Japan.
