The upcoming YOUKU production Legends of the Eternal Puppet (aka 偃师传说) has a new trailer out and, wow, this donghua looks cool.
The fantasy action adventure donghua is being animated by Qingxiang Culture, whose World of Immortals is due to premiere at the end of the month (and yep, it looks equally stunning), and is produced by YOUKU.
It has a planned 13 episodes, and is currently scheduled to premiere some time in 2025.
The Legends of the Eternal Puppet plot
Along with the teaser trailer, YOUKU also gave a synopsis of the Legends of the Eternal Puppet plot in the video’s notes. It goes like this:
In a world where puppets and puppet masters exist, the number one puppet master in the world is worshipped as a Yanshi.
Five hundred years ago, the first Yanshi, Luo Qingcheng, the Lord of Tian Luo Kingdom, created the legendary perfect puppet. A puppet that brought endless power, but also the war of annihilation.
Tian Luo Kingdom collapsed during that war, and the perfect puppet also turned into wreckage and became lost in legend.
Now, five hundred years later, Prince of the Southern Zhou, Ji Ye Chen, who has lived in the Kunlun Mountains for many years due to being ill since childhood, receives the news of his father’s death.
He immediately sets off for Southern Zhou to succeed the throne but, along the way, he is attacked by enemy forces.
Before he can be killed, however, he is suddenly rescued by a mysterious woman, the only disciple of the last Yanshi, who has come down the mountain in search of her master.
As the tagline of the Legends of the Eternal Puppet trailer is “A love epic in Qianji City!”, you can probably guess where this story will lead, right?
