Light Beyond the Road earns over 500,000 reservations – drama coming soon? Here’s what we know

Ignore the fact that the just-released visual from Tencent Video calls the C-drama ‘Light Beyond the Reed‘ (sometimes Tencent really does need a native speaker to proof read their promos (smile), and instead celebrate that Light Beyond the Road has just exceeded 500,000 reservations.

That’s an increase of over 200,000 reservations since the second week of September.

The upcoming Vin Zhang and Mao Xiao Tong-led drama still doesn’t have a release date, but Tencent is already celebrating its pre-orders with a visual featuring the two main leads and a comment saying:

Congratulations to the northern and southern couple (@张binbinVin @马晓彤) who have earned more than 500,000 reservations for #久生有愿#.

What they have repaired together is not only the lamp, but also the light that illuminates each other’s future.

Lock in Light Beyond the Road on Tencent Video.

Along with Vin Zhang and Mao Xiao Tong as the leads, Light Beyond the Road also features a supporting cast that includes Shi Yun Peng (Romance in the Alley), Ma Ya Shu (When Destiny Brings the Demon), Lu Zhong (Fangs of Fortune), Yu Bin (A Hero Without a Name), and Chen Ya Xi (In Blossom).

The C-drama is directed by Li Mu Ge (Heroes and Fireworks of My Heart), and written by Mo Shu Bai (The Princess Royal).

Previously released visual as Light Beyond the Road earned 300,000 reservations

The Light Beyond the Road plot goes like this:

She is an utterly ordinary woman. She has a family that favors sons over daughters, a job with meager pay, and a husband of few words. She thinks she will always be ordinary—until one night, when misfortune strikes without warning, and she begins living in darkness.

She fears someone might say she attended the drinking party that night, and she fears someone might say she wore a skirt that night. She is afraid her husband will accuse her of being unchaste, and she is afraid her family will revile her for being immoral.

When everything can no longer be hidden, her habitually silent husband sits on the sofa, finishes his last cigarette, and looks at her, curled up in the corner, crying uncontrollably.

“What did you do wrong?” he asks.

Then he takes her hand—calls the police, pursues the perpetrator, files appeals. With the rest of his life and all his strength, he seeks justice for her, demands righteousness, and gives love.

Yep, this one sounds like it may be a little out of the ordinary and, for that, I am always eternally grateful when a Chinese drama differs from the norm.

The 16-episode psychological thriller is due to premiere on Tencent Video as part of the Tencent Firefly Theater series, following such excellent series as the recent Reborn, Twelve Letters and Her.

Its premiere is likely to be soon considering Light Beyond the Road ended its filming over a year ago, and received its distribution license on February 27th, 2025.

Its promotion by Tencent is also now beginning to ramp up. Fingers crossed then, eh?

Did you miss....
