Liu Xue Yi and Tan Song Yun’s ‘Against the Current’ wraps filming – releases a HUGE number of cast photos

The Liu Xue Yi and Tan Song Yun-lead historical romance Against the Current has officially ended its filming today, with photographs of the entire cast from the drama’s wrap ceremony released on Weibo.

Yep, that is a huge amount of photos but, it’s definitely nice to see Tencent Video promoting even cast members with small parts.

And no, I’m not a fan of that moustache on Liu Xue Yi, are you?

Those photographs were released with a message about the Against the Current plot, and a confirmation of the cast:

As the C-drama has only just finished filming, you can expect it to be at least late 2026 before it actually drops.

Here’s what you can expect as far as a plot goes when it does:

The eldest granddaughter of the Grand Secretary’s household, Shen Jialan, is betrothed to Lin Jinqi, the eldest grandson of the Minister of Personnel’s family. However, the imperial court is suddenly engulfed in turmoil when her grandfather, Grand Secretary Shen, is convicted of treason, leading to the brutal extermination of the entire Shen family.

To protect themselves, the Lin family calls off the engagement and instead forms a marital alliance with the newly favored Zhao family at court.

The Lin family servants, Xu Wanquan and his wife, whom Jialan’s mother, Madame Cui, once aided, replace Jialan with their own recently deceased daughter, Xu Lanxiang.

From then on, assuming the identity of Xu Lanxiang, Jialan becomes a third-class maid in the Lin household.

Amidst these hardships, Lanxiang refuses to bow to fate. She persistently strives for a better life for herself and her family while resisting all forms of injustice and oppression.
