Love Story in the 1970s ends filming – wrap ceremony photos of Chen Fei Yu, Sun Qian, Wang Tian Chen and others
Now, I am not a particular fan of the 1970s having lived through them and found things quite ugly and dull.
Thus, when the Chinese drama Love Story in the 1970s (aka 实用主义者的爱情 or The Love of a Pragmatist) was first announced, I can’t say it grabbed my attention.
But, when the Love Story in the 1970s cast announcement included Chen Fei Yu (aka Arthur Chen), Wang Tian Chen and Guo Xiao Ting (aka Cristy Guo), the story could take place 15,000 years from now, and I would still watch it.
The filming for Love Story in the 1970s wrapped this week, so that means its premiere is even closer, and with Tencent releasing the photos from the wrap ceremony, along with the message:
#Wraps Up Filming#
When romance meets pragmatism, everyone who loves life wholeheartedly deserves their own special award ✨.
Those heartwarming, down-to-earth ensemble stories are about to “cash in” on screen and meet you soon~ 🎞️
Next stop—keeping the romance alive! Wrapping up with great fortune 🎉. Can’t wait to see you all at #Loveinthe1970s# on @Tencent Video!
The Love in the 1970s plot
The Chinese slice-of-life, romance drama is adapted from the web novel “Shi Yong Zhu Yi Zhe De Ai Qing” (实用主义者的爱情), which is written by Meng Zhong De Yi (孟中得意).
Baidu Encyclopedia describes the C-drama’s plot like this:
In the 1970s, Fei Ni (played by Sun Qian), an ambitious hat factory worker, dreams of attending university to change her fate through education.
Her middle school classmate, Fang Mu Yang (Arthur Chen), becomes a hero after being injured while saving someone.
Hoping to gain recognition and a university recommendation, Fei Ni volunteers to care for him—but her hopes are repeatedly dashed.
As real-world pressures mount, Fei Ni proposes a marriage of convenience to Fang Mu Yang so they can secure an apartment for her brother after his wedding.
After many struggles, they finally get their own home, but become a couple who sleep on bunk beds.
The Chinese drama will air for 28 episodes, so it’s a shorter one than the 40-episode wuxia drama so many of us are used to watching. Yay!
The Love in the 1970s cast
Love in the 1970s stars Chen Fei Yu, and Sun Qian, with special stars Guo Xiao Ting and Wang Tian Chen.
The C-drama co-stars Shi Yun Peng, Xia Hao Ran, Li Shu Man, Guo Wei Jie, and Wu You You.
It features a guest appearance by Liu Min Tao, and special appearances by Wu Yue, Hao Wen Ting, Hou Chang Rong, and Kong Lin.
The Chinese drama is directed by Chen Chang (As Beautiful As You), and is written by Guo Shuang (The Love You Give Me).
No word yet on the premiere date, obviously, but with it not requiring the massive amount of time spent on post-production an historical romance filled with wire stunts and CGI requires, there is a chance it will drop before the end of 2025.
We will keep you updated here at Leo Sigh as more information drops.
Now enjoy the Love Story in the 1970s wrap ceremony photos, because don’t they all look happy with the work they have achieved???!!!

There’s also a teaser trailer via @feiyudiaries’ X account, which makes the C-drama look really sweet and cute. (Follow that account, btw, if you want constant updates about the goings-on of Arthur Chen, and who doesn’t!!)
