More ‘Eternal Brotherhood’ Season 2 stills drop as C-drama premieres on Friday
Eternal Brotherhood 2 drops on iQIYI this week
Upcoming Chinese drama Eternal Brotherhood, Season 2 now has a confirmed premiere date and, as often happens with series coming out of China, that date is just a couple of days from now — May 30th, 2025 — that’s when it drops on iQIYI and Tencent Video.
That being said, Season 2 is arriving much faster than the C-drama’s first season, which didn’t premiere until about three years after filming was complete.
Now, we will just have to see if its second season gets a better reception from international viewers. Some of whom were quite critical of last year’s season 1.
Considering the plot, which is taken from the Purple River fantasy novel and its donghua adaptation, is pretty complicated, frankly, I was surprised it performed as well as it did outside China.
After all, even I was confused at first, as the first season kicks off with a huge battle scene and then just steamrolls right into the plot. And I was more versed than most as I had already watched the donghua — twice — so I can only imagine how others felt.
New stills dropped for Eternal Brotherhood, Season 2 this week, though, and it looks like, even if the plot is just as complicated, we will be getting the same gorgeous cinematography as we got in Season 1. Yay!
Eternal Brotherhood, Season 2 stills
Ahead of its premiere, new Eternal Brotherhood, Season 2 stills dropped via the drama’s Weibo account, along with the messages:
The smoke of war rises again, and the souls are set to fight; stick to the faith and write a legend again!
and
The court is full of confrontations, and friendship is hard to give up.
As far as the last comment goes, if it’s anything like Season 1, I would say that’s an understatement wouldn’t you?
Eternal Brotherhood, Season 2 production details
The second season of the C-drama’s official title in China is Purple River: The King of Light. It, of course, continues in the same universe as its first season.
Framed by a Northern clan’s scheme, Zichuan Xiu (played by Yang Xuwen) is exiled by his family but rebuilds his power base in Yuanzhou with his loyal “Xiu Battalion,” ultimately reclaiming his homeland and ascending the throne.
Like the first season, layers of political machinations, war, fractured brotherhood, national loyalty, and tragic romance will unfold in a gripping narrative as we finally get to see what that abrupt Season 1 ending was heralding, and what Zichuan Xiu decides to do next.
You can also expect the same lavish sets, backdrops and costumes, and incredibly pretty cinematography, along with epic battles, superb CGI and wire work.
The second season of the fantasy action adventure is directed by Season 1 directors Zhang Meng and Wei Lizhou, with Zhang Meng as chief director.
It stars Yang Xuwen, Liu Yuning, Zhang Mingen, Li Mozhi and Joyin Cai, who are returning to reprise their main roles from Season 1.
The C-drama’s supporting cast includes Ma Shaohua, Huang Haoyue, Li Guo, Chen Siche, Wu Helun, and Esther Chen.
Yep, this one not only has some of the most talented Chinese actors working today but, man, this cast has to be one of the most beautiful in a long while too, eh?
Look out for Eternal Brotherhood, Season 2 on iQIYI and Tencent Video from Friday onwards.
And, if you haven’t yet started watching Season 1 (it’s excellent if you just sit tight while what’s going on is slowly explained to you through subsequent episodes), that is still streaming on iQIYI.
Now might be a good time to start.
