The ENA drama Mother and Mom (aka 라이딩 인생) ended its eight episode run last night and, let’s just say, I was ecstatic to see it grabbed ratings — both nationwide and in Seoul — that were almost double those of its previous episode the next before.
Come on, it is always great when a Korean drama goes out on a bit of a bang rather than a whimper, isn’t it?
And besides, after all the horrific trauma lead actress Jeon Hye Jin has had to live through over the last year and a bit since her husband, actor Lee Sun Kyun, committed suicide, she deserves something incredibly good.
Mother and Mom climbs over 3.0 percent barrier for first time
In the case of Mother and Mom, Episode 8 then, the Korean family drama earned the nationwide rating of 3.25 percent on Tuesday night — which is a big increase from the 1.79 percent it garnered on Monday evening, and the first time it hit the 3.0 percent bracket.
In Seoul, Mother and Mom, Episode 8 performed almost as well — grabbing 3.21 percent of the audience share, after its Monday ratings of 2.09 percent.
The only not-so-great thing about these very nice Mother and Mom ratings then is that it isn’t possible to find the Korean drama on a legal streaming service anywhere in the west.
And that has meant Jeon Hye Jin/Jo Min Su fans like me have had to resort to other means.
A pity as, just like Jeon Hye Jin’s previous drama, Not Others, Mother and Mom is an incredibly cool and quite short watch, and with a satisfying ending.
