My Hero Academia 8 in production and confirmed as series finale – fans hoping we get a fitting end!

In exciting news for anime fans, the curtain closed on the final episode of My Hero Academia Season 7 today with an announcement that the anime series is gearing up for its grand finale with an 8th and concluding season, set to premiere some time in 2025.

This announcement was accompanied by a promotional teaser (watch below), and a new visual reminiscent of those final scenes earlier today that has ignited anticipation among fans globally.

The journey of Boku no Hero Academia, animated by Studio Bones, began in the spring of 2016 with its debut season, which captivated audiences with its 13 episodes.

The series has since maintained a regular schedule, with subsequent seasons releasing in the spring and fall of various years, each spanning 25 episodes, and beautifully showcasing the growth of its characters in the universe crafted by mangaka Kouhei Horikoshi.

Kouhei Horikoshi’s manga series

The source material, Kouhei Horikoshi’s manga, which started in Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014, also concluded its run on August 5th, leaving behind a legacy with over 100 million copies in circulation.

Tens of millions sold in just the last couple of years.

And yes, the Boku no Hero Academia manga series is one of the Top 25 best-selling series of all-time.

This epic tale of heroism was not only a hit in Japan either, but has also found immense popularity worldwide, with VIZ Media taking on the English translation, simultaneously publishing each volume alongside its Japanese release.

The 39th volume was released on October 1st, with volume 40 scheduled for a February 11th, 2025 release.

My Hero Academia series and films

Aside from its main television run, My Hero Academia has also expanded into the cinematic realm with several movies that have added depth and additional adventures to the main storyline.

The first movie, Futari no Hero, hit theaters in August 2018, followed by Heroes: Rising in December 2019, and World Heroes Mission in August 2021.

The latest film, My Hero Academia: You’re Next, was released just this year in August, further enriching the franchise’s narrative universe.

As My Hero Academia approaches its final chapter in animated form as well, fans are dying to see how the story of protagonist Izuku Midoriya and his friends will conclude.

Of course, we’re all hoping to see a fitting end to one of the most beloved superhero sagas of modern times.

Fingers crossed we’ll get it!
