The upcoming rom-com anime Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hogen Sugite Tsura Sugiru, roughly translated as The Girl I Fell in Love with in Okinawa Speaks with Such a Strong Dialect She’s Hard to Understand, has a cute new trailer out via its official X account.
Along with its second trailer release (watch it down below), the Studio Millepensee-animated anime also received an announcement about four new cast members and their characters’ designs
The newest Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hogen Sugite Tsura Sugiru trailer shows protagonist Teruaki Nakamura trying to adjust to his new life in Okinawa after transferring there for work, as well as introduces a whole cast of cool and fun looking characters. (Awesome character design too).
The story follows Nakamura as he falls in love with local Okinawa girl, Hina Kyan, but needs her best friend Kana Higa to help him understand what she’s saying.
Along with a colorful cast of characters, it also does a beautiful job of showing just how much fun life can be for an outsider living among the locals on the Japanese island of Okinawa.
Even if you can’t always understand them.
The Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hogen Sugite Tsura Sugiru voice cast
The four new characters and their voice actors are three members of Kana Higa’s family alongside Hina Kyan’s grandmother (and yep, those characters look so cool!):
They are:
Kana’s older brother Tetsu Higa, who is quiet but also very kind and caring, and is played by Yamato Kinjou (Johndein in Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion).
Kana’s precocious and mischievous younger sister Suzu Higa who is voiced by Miyuri Shimabukuro (Kimura in Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night).
Jane’s friendly and energetic cousin Naoya Higa who is played by Risa Tsumugi (Chiyu in BanG Dream!)
Hina’s grandmother Sachiko Kyan who is both loving and powerful, and is being voiced by Yuuko Gibu (Hikari in Encouragement of Climb)
The anime’s casting director also made a huge effort to make their Okinawa accents sound completely authentic by only hiring Okinawa natives for the four roles.
The four join the already-announced main cast of Fairouz Ai (Power in Chainsaw Man) who plays Kana Higa, Takeo Ootsuka (Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries) who is voicing Teruaki Nakamura, and Akari Kitou (Nene in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun) as Hina Kyan.
Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hogen Sugite Tsura Sugiru anime details
The rom-com anime (and let’s hope we get an English title we can pronounce soon) is based on the manga written and illustrated by Egumi Sora, which is currently available in Japan in eight tankōbon volumes.
There’s no word yet on if an English translation is heading our way but, if its anime adaptation is successful, fingers crossed we will get one.
Its anime adaptation is being directed by Shingo Tanabe (director of I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too), with chief director Shin Itagaki (So I’m a Spider, So What?) supervising.
Both men are also in charge of scripts and series composition.
Those beautiful character designs based on Egumi Sora’s original work are by Tomohiro Yoshi (Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter).
As mentioned previously, Studio Millepensee (Berserk and Wake Up, Girls!) is in charge of anime production.
