The announcement was made on the studio’s official Weibo account on Friday.

The new Proud Swordsman poster features protagonist Li Fuyao, and advertises the second season’s premiere date — December 1st, 2024 — exclusively streaming via Tencent.

Chinese fans on Weibo commented their support about the new season, as it has been over two years since the first season ended on May 11th, 2022.

In other words, Li Fuyao’s return has been a long time coming.

The number of episodes in the second season has not been released, but Suoyi Technology has stated the donghua will premiere on December 1st with two episodes, and then weekly episodes released every Sunday after that.

They ended their message by saying:

Proud Swordsman details

Animated by the aforementioned Suoyi Technology, and produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures, Proud Swordsman (aka Renjian Zui Deyi) premiered on October 27th, 2021 with its first season, with two episodes releasing per week and running for 60 episodes.

It was directed by Li Tinghe, who is also known for helming the currently ongoing Spy x Sect, One Hundred Thousand Years of Qi Refining and Glorious Revenge of Ye Feng.

The donghua is based on a webnovel by Zi Moqian.

Its plot, via Baidu, goes like this:

Six thousand years in the future, the once prosperous lineage of sword masters has declined, with only the Sword Immortal Chao Qingqiu holding up the current lineage of sword masters, standing against the twelve saints of the Three Teachings.

Li Fuyao, bearing a great grudge, makes a living telling stories in a small town of a small country. While doing so, he travels to Sword Mountain, to the Demon Land, to the Buddhist Land.

After taking revenge, he finally understands that there is a huge conspiracy in the world.

Why did the sword master lineage begin to decline six thousand years ago? Why have the saints and sword immortals of six thousand years ago, as well as those from the past six thousand years, failed to attain immortality?

Why did the leader of the sword faction, Chao Qingqiu, fake his own death and stay in the human realm? What exactly is the lantern in the Buddhist Land? Is the dragon in the Demon Land an outsider from beyond the heavens? What is there beyond the heavens?

All these mysteries are gradually revealed step by step as Li Fuyao continues to grow.

Unfortunately, like most donghua series older than a year or two, Tencent’s YouTube channel hasn’t bothered to add subtitles in any language to their Proud Swordsman, Season 1 videos.

That means, if you want to catch up before the second season hits, unless you understand Chinese, they are unwatchable.

They are, however, available elsewhere and a quick search should help you find them.
