There’s a new Rose Finch premiere poster just dropped via Tencent’s Weibo account, just to give C-drama fans a heads up that the historical thriller premieres on the streaming platform today.

The latest poster for the short drama (each episode is only 15 minutes!) comes with the message:

#Rosefinch Premiere#

Only the strong prevail, and only the victor has a voice! Behind the bizarre cases tied to #Rosefinch#, what hidden ambitions are stirring?

Premiering today at 12 PM on @Tencent Video #ShortDrama#—stay tuned!”

The poster features every member of the cast, who are standing amongst models of a Republican era Shanghai, while a mask lies on the floor in a pool of blood.

And while the drama itself features just 15 minute episodes, there are 30 of them, so around 7 1/2 hours of viewing time in total to get your Republican era crime fix.

Personally, I find this setting fascinating because we know, as western in appearance as Shanghai looked back then, not long after the city fell to the Japanese in what is now thought of as the first battle of the Second World War.

Shanghai was occupied by the Japanese forces, who killed or badly injured around 200,000 Chinese during just the first prolonged battle alone, and then continued to be occupied until the end of World War II in 1945.

Just like the Koreans, the Chinese suffered through untold atrocities at the hands of the Japanese during these years.

Something I often think about when I watch dramas set in this forward looking period. A period in Chinese history that had such promise, but was all too quickly lost to an invading army.

Rose Finch stars Regina Wan, Qin Jun Jie, Lin Le Xuan, Zhang Cheng, Oho Ou, Wang Ting and others, with the first 8 episodes now available to stream via iQIYI.
