Takuya Satou and Seena Hoshiki named as Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You main cast – anime premieres in 2026
At the absolute top of my list of anticipated animated series in the next year is the upcoming romance anime Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You.
An anime based on the manga written and illustrated by Jinushi, and one of the more quirky and unusual stories when it comes to the main couple — Sasaki, a middle-aged and disappointed-in-life salaryman, and Tayama (aka Yamada), an early 20s part-timer in a local supermarket
A couple whose voice actors have just been announced today — with Takuya Satou (Rick in The Ossan Newbie Adventurer) voicing Sasaki, and Seena Hoshiki (Riamu in Eternity Memories) playing Tayama/Yamada.
The voice actors were announced via the Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You X account, with both a visual and a voice PV (see above and below)
The plot of Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You
The manga (which is wonderful), and now its anime adaptation, follows Sasaki and Tayama, as Sasaki goes for a smoke behind the supermarket, only to discover Tayama, a young woman dressed in somber colors and also smoking a cigarette.
Over the next few days and weeks, Sasaki finds himself going behind the supermarket again and again simply because he enjoys his conversations with Tayama. Even if her outlook on life is quite dark. When she is not there, he is disappointed.
Little does he realize that Tayama is actually Yamada, a young cashier at the supermarket and someone who Sasaki idolizes as she is always so upbeat and cheerful.
On her end, Tayama, while enjoying her conversations with Sasaki, is also bemused as to why he doesn’t realize she is Yamada the woman he admires.

The announcement of the main voice actors for Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is the first real information we have received about the upcoming anime, as the animation studio, director, screenwriter/s and character designer/s have yet to be announced.
