As if being able to see the wonderful Jinshi every week in each new episode of The Apothecary Diaries wasn’t enough (it’s not, really it’s not!), TOHO Animation has just gifted us a Jinshi character video, which features some of the beautiful “eunuch’s” best scenes from the hit anime.
Jinshi, of course, is the palace eunuch (well, most of us know his real identity by now – and especially after Episode 19’s final scenes) who, once he meets tiny apothecary Maomao, finds himself unexpectedly falling in love.
And being rebuffed at every turn by the feisty Maomao (rewatch her as she slaps sense into that attendant), whose back goes up like a cat’s every time Jinshi gets too close.
In the new Jinshi character video, we see some of the cute interactions between Jinshi and Maomao, as well as are reminded of how other people, especially women, react to his beauty and plain sparkliness.

The only frustrating thing about the video is that, like most trailers/character videos TOHO Animation releases, they didn’t bother to include English subtitles.

Jinshi, and the rest of the wonderful characters in The Apothecary Diaries anime series are brought to us by director Norihiko Naganuma (The Ancient Magus’ Bride), who is also responsible for series composition, and assistant-directed by Akinori Fudesaka (Tsuredure Children).
Jinshi, and everyone else’s character design, is from animation director and character designer Yoshihiro Nagamori (Beyblade X) alongside Kana Miyai (Castle Town Dandelion).
Both TOHO animation STUDIO and OLM are responsible for the anime production.
The Apothecary Diaries anime is based on the massively popular light novel series written by Natsu Hyuuga and illustrated by Megumi Matsuda.
The synopsis for the first volume of the novels goes like this:
In the East is a land ruled by an emperor, whose consorts and serving women live in a sprawling complex known as the hougong, the rear palace.
Maomao, an unassuming girl raised in an unassuming town by her apothecary father, never imagined the rear palace would have anything to do with her—until she was kidnapped and sold into service there.
Though she looks ordinary, Maomao has a quick wit, a sharp mind, and an extensive knowledge of medicine. That’s her secret, until she encounters a resident of the palace at least as perceptive as she is: the head eunuch, Jinshi.
He sees through Maomao’s façade and makes her a lady-in-waiting to none other than the Emperor’s favorite consort… so she can taste the lady’s food for poison!
At her lady’s side, Maomao starts to learn about everything that goes on in the rear palace—not all of it seemly. Can she ever lead a quiet life, or will her powers of deduction and insatiable curiosity bring her ever more adventures, and ever more dangers?
