The Immortal Ascension gets premiere date – announcement poster featuring Yang Yang as Han Li drops

As I’ve been saying for the last few days, it was obvious The Immortal Ascension’s premiere date would be happening pretty soon, as promotional material for the Chinese cultivation drama is now being dropped several times a day.

That premiere date was then announced earlier today, with YOUKU informing fans The Immortal Ascension will begin exclusively streaming on their platform beginning on July 27th.

The message that arrived with the poster simply says:

#The Immortal Ascension#

“I roam the world as I please”. Han Li fearlessly breaks into the Immortal Gate!

The Immortal Ascension, of course, is adapted from the mega-successful donghua A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality, and the original novel that donghua is based on.

The C-drama stars Yang Yang (The King’s Avatar) as protagonist Han Li, Gina Jin as Nangong Wan, Wang Duo as Wang Chan, Zhao Xiao Tang as Chen Qiao Qian, Zhao Qing as Mo Cai Huan,  and Jin Jia Yue as Dong Xuan Er.

Its 30 episodes will follow Han Li as he goes from an ordinary boy from a poor family who decides to join a cultivation sect so his family can save money on food, to a grown man who becomes one of the most powerful human beings in the world, and whose goal in life is to be immortal.

Meanwhile, for fans of the donghua, don’t be upset that it feels as though the production company has cut the popular story, considering it is only 30 episodes instead of 36-40.

After all, the director has already announced some of The Immortal Ascension’s episodes will be over an hour in length, and that its plot follows the original novel very closely.

Check out the recent video of Yang Yang talking about what it was like playing the part of the iconic Han Li, and head over to YOUKU on July 27th for the Chinese drama’s premiere.

With reservations the way they are (they passed 4 million earlier today) The Immortal Ascension is likely to be one of the most successful Chinese dramas of the year, and you won’t want to miss it.
