The Immortal Ascension hits 7.5 on Douban – initial rating has C-drama as ‘above average’
While the just-ended Chinese drama The Immortal Ascension is not a huge hit on Douban just yet (above an 8.0 is a big success), it has just been added to Douban with a 7.5 rating.
In Douban-speak then, while not one of the best rated Chinese dramas out there, so far at least, a 7.5 rating for The Immortal Ascension means the Chinese cultivation drama is currently thought of as “above average”.
In other words, while it was well-received by both viewers and critics alike, it still has some flaws.
That does not mean, however, that the Douban rating won’t increase as, chances are as time goes on, it likely will.
Meanwhile, the 7.5 rating on Douban for The Immortal Ascension is being celebrated by YOUKU today, with the release of a new visual featuring male lead Yang Yang and the rest of the main cast (see above), and a message commenting:

The Immortal Ascension, which is based on the hit novel “A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality” (凡人修仙传) by Wang Yu (忘语), premiered on July 27th and ran through August 12th.

It stars Yang Yang, Gina Jin, Wang Duo, Zhao Xiao Tang, and Zhao Qing, and is currently streaming all 30 episodes on YOUKU, with VIP subscribers currently having access to Episodes 1 through 26, while those willing to pay for Express have access to all 30 episodes.
