Li Yun Rui in Tigers Sniff the Rose

Back in June, we reported that the main leads of upcoming political romance drama Tigers Sniff the Rose had been confirmed as the C-drama also began filming.

That filming has now ended today (see wrap ceremony photos), with a slew of Tigers Sniff the Rose character visuals releasing along with a comment about the drama and cast from Tencent Video, who is producing the series.

And yep, probably the first thing C-drama fans who have already watched the hit series Blossom will notice is that this one features a reunion between Meng Zi Yi, Li Yun Rui and Quan Yi Lun.

The new Tigers Sniff the Rose character visuals dropped via Tencent Video’s official Weibo page, with a message tagging every actor featured in the posters:

And, if I was honest, I have to say the Tigers Sniff the Rose plot doesn’t sound much different than a thousand other Chinese dramas as it looks like this:

Princess Danyang/ Mu Wan Yao is ordered to leave Chang’an and journey to Lingnan to pray for her deceased mother.

On her return trip, her carriage axle breaks on a mountain path, where she serendipitously encounters the scholar Yan Shang, who is returning home from his humble work at a rural school.

Amidst the mountains of Lingnan, the two develop mutual affection through their shared struggles. Later, with the princess’s help, Yan Shang enters Chang’an’s political arena, where he quickly rises to prominence while befriending a group of talented and ambitious young men.

When the nation faces internal strife and external threats, Yan Shang charges ahead without fear, joining forces with the princess to eradicate corruption and restore peace.

Of course, you can’t tell until a C-drama is released if the writer and director have done something different with what sounds like a typical plot, so we will just have to see how this one turns out.

Especially as it is written by the same screenwriter responsible for Blossoms in Adversity and Till the End of the Moon, both of which were superb, and directed by Zoe Qin (Lost You Forever), which is definitely promising, right?

With the drama just ending its filming this weekend it will, of course, be some time in 2026 at the earliest before it drops when we can find out.

Until then then, enjoy the new Tigers Sniff the Rose character visuals.
