Who voices Meng Chuan in The Demon Hunter? What other donghua characters has he played?

With the fantasy action adventure donghua The Demon Hunter 2 hitting streaming services yesterday, it dawned on me there must be a huge number of Chinese animation fans who would love to know who voices protagonist Meng Chuan in the series?

After all, he was brilliant in Season 1 but, if you have seen the first two episodes of The Demon Hunter 2, which hit yesterday, you may agree with me — if it’s even possible, he is now even better.

So, who voices Meng Chuan in The Demon Hunter 1 and 2, and what other donghua characters has he played that you may know or like?

Meng Chuan’s voice actor

The Chinese VA who brings Meng Chuan brilliantly to life is San Shin ( 三石).

The actor, whose real name is Lei Zhang, was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China on August 4th, 1998, so he is currently 26-years-old.

His Demon Hunter role is not his first foray into voice acting, however, as he has also appeared in several other TV series, although, most of his roles have been voice dubbing in popular Chinese dramas and not in animation.

His limited donghua/anime roles then include:

• Shen Yin Wangzuo (Throne of Seal) — Du Zie
• Violet Evergarden (2018) — Aidan Field
• Blades of the Guardian (2023) — Additional voices
• Legend of the Supreme Soldier (2024)

So, no, San Shin has not voiced the roles for a huge number of donghua characters. Yet.

But, the first season of The Demon Hunter (aka Cang Yuan Tu) was very successful when it streamed in 2023.

And, with Season 2 already grabbing over 220,000 watches for Episode 1 on YOUKU’s YouTube international channels alone in just its first 24 hours, and heaven knows how many in China, chances are we could hear San Shin in many more donghua to come.
