Witch Hat Atelier anime delayed until 2026 and, yep, I’m fine with that

It’s that time of year again when anime that are heading towards their scheduled release date suddenly get postponed after the Japanese animation studio figures out “Nope. There’s no way we’ll be ready on time”.

Case in point, the upcoming Witch Hat Atelier which, crazily was announced as getting an anime adaptation waaaaaaay back in April, 2022 and now, over three years later, still hasn’t been released.

And sadly, with news from animation studio Bug Films dropping via the upcoming anime’s official X account earlier today, it seems Witch Hat Atelier‘s scheduled 2025 release has now been pushed off until some time in 2026.

That likely means, if it does release in the first few months of 2026, it will be four years from when the anime was announced.

And almost two years since its first trailer was released.

The announcement today about Witch Hat Atelier anime being postponed came with a message from Bug Films that said:

TV anime “Witch Hat Atelier” will have its broadcast schedule changed from 2025 to 2026 in order to deliver the charm of the work with even higher quality.

We sincerely apologize for the disappointing news to all the fans who have been eagerly awaiting broadcast.

Our entire staff is dedicated to putting their hearts into the production. Further updates will be announced officially as soon as they are decided, so we kindly ask for your patience in the meantime.

We don’t want another Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead

Honestly, though, like several anime fans who have been looking forward to Witch Hat Atelier for a long time commented this morning, I am also supportive of letting Bug Films do their job while patiently waiting for Witch Hat Atelier — no matter how long it takes.

After all, Bug Films was the animation studio that took on the task of animating Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead.

A few episodes in, however, new episodes of the anime experienced delay after delay before Zom 100 was then put on hiatus for a few weeks before its final episodes eventually dropped.

A circumstance that was caused by Bug Films taking on too much work, and then having Zom 100 suffer the consequences.

Nope, we don’t want that experience again.

Check out the anime’s first trailer below, which was released in mid-2024, and do note that utterly gorgeous art style.
