Upcoming iQIYI-produced fantasy rebirth donghua Xiao Xian Zhi Yao has a new poster out (see below) just days before it is due to premiere on April 21st.
Sadly, it is also one of the many Chinese anime series that hasn’t had much promotion outside Asia.
We do know, however, the first four episodes of the series will all hit on April 21st on iQIYI in China — a great way to get into a new donghua, and decide if it’s for you — with a new episode then releasing on the same platform every Monday and Thursday at 10 AM (Beijing Time).
No word, yet, though if iQIYI outside China will also be getting the donghua. Fingers crossed, right?
What is the Xiao Xian Zhi Yao plot?
According to its listing on Baidu, the Xiao Xian Zhi Yao plot goes like this:
He Wan, the feared Hidden Clan ruler of the Three Realms, launches a surprise attack on the Heavenly Court.
As the exalted god Nan Ze then rises to battle, Yu Zhiyao—a humble jade-planting fairy—sacrifices herself to protect him. But, in the moment she and He Wan are meant to perish together, Zhiyao is unexpectedly reborn… into He Wan’s body.
Now trapped in her enemy’s form, the reborn “He Wan” finds her Hidden Clan powers severely weakened.
When the Western Sea’s hidden guardian Ting Zhao arrives to aid his lord’s recovery, Zhiyao is forced to walk a double path: maintaining a facade of majestic authority before the world, while remaining playfully endearing before her lord.
The new Xiao Xian Zhi Yao poster was released via the official Weibo account for Chinese animation studio Suoyi Technology (Spy x Sect), along with this message:
Once a celestial maiden, now the supreme ruler of three realms—defying fate, she shatters the hypocritical heavens!
The upcoming donghua is based on the novel of the same name written by Chinese author Jin Zhu. The fantasy novel is currently available to read for free on Chinese platform Tomato Novel (aka Fanqie Novel) in Chinese.
