Zhou Ye and Ryan Cheng’s ‘Legend of the Female General’ exceeds 1.5 million reservations – celebratory poster releases
War-themed romance drama Legend of the Female General has been a long while in coming, what with the Zhou Ye and Ryan Cheng-led drama kicking off filming in November, 2023.
Now, two years later, with the stirrings we’ve been getting about the Chinese drama recently, it looks like the 36-episode series may be finally premiering on Tencent Video soon.
In anticipation of that, Tencent themselves released a new celebratory Legend of the Female General poster this morning (above) featuring protagonists Hey Yan (played by Zhou Ye) and Xiao Jue (Ryan Cheng aka Cheng Lei) on the battlefield.
Around them are soldiers fighting, while they are surrounded by the dead and dying.

Along with the new Legend of the Female General poster, we got a reminder to reserve the Chinese drama on Tencent, along with the comment:
Congratulations on #LegendOfTheFemaleGeneral surpassing 1.5 million reservations across platforms!
“The mountains and rivers vow, the moon bears witness,
Two hearts unite, swords drawn in fierceness.
Swift as a falcon, commanding armies with might,
Battle spirit soars, conquering heaven’s height.”Thank you for your love and support for #Legend of the Female General! Stay tuned for more exciting updates!

Legend of the Female General details
The Chinese wuxia drama was first announced in June, 2023 with its main crew being named in October and its main cast the following month.
Its filming was wrapped up on March 20th, 2024 at Xiangshan World Studios.
Since then, we have had various posters, stills, character visuals and trailers released, but have yet to get a release date.
Legend of the Female General is based on the web novel ‘Rebirth of a Star General'(重生之女将星), written by Qian Shan Cha Ke (千山茶客).
Of course, as is often the case with Chinese dramas adapted from hit novels, for some bizarre reason, the production committee/screenwriter decides to change a huge chunk of the plot compared to its original novel.
That seems to be the case here.
Legend of the Female General stars Zhou Ye (Everyone Loves Me), and Cheng Lei (My Journey to You), with a truly superb supporting cast that includes Zhang Kang Le (The Way Home), Zhang Miao Yi (Guardians of the Dafeng), Li Ming De (The Longest Promise) and Bai Shu (A Moment But Forever).
Jeffrey Chiang (The Longest Promise) is directing, with Chang Ye and Feng Shu Wen, who co-wrote The Legend of Zhuohua, also co-writing this.
The Legend of the Female General plot goes like this:
He Yan is forced to wear a mask and disguise herself as the family’s legitimate eldest son, “He Ru Fei.”
In her youth, He Yan meets the proud and talented Xiao Jue (played by Cheng Lei) at Xianchang Academy. Later, to escape her family’s fate, she resolutely leaves the academy and heads for the battlefield. Years later, He Yan returns home in glory, but upon the return of her elder brother He Ru Fei (played by Bai Shu), the family schemes against her.
Surviving a near-fatal plot, He Yan assumes a new identity, disguising herself as the daughter of a city gate captain and enlisting in the army in Yezhou, determined to reclaim everything that belongs to her.
During her journey, He Yan befriends the gentle and refined Chu Zhao (played by Zhang Kangle) and reunites with Xiao Jue.
However, Xiao Jue suspects He Yan is a spy and repeatedly tests and antagonizes her.
We also got an extended trailer a few months ago, which will give you a good idea of the feel and of the events of the Chinese drama.
Sorry, it doesn’t come with English subtitles, but you can at least get the gist of what’s going on.
Fingers crossed Legend of the Female General will premiere soon, as it looks like one of those rare C-dramas with a kickass female lead, solid fight scenes and an interesting plot.
I will let you know here at Leo Sigh as soon as we get an official announcement on its premiere.
