Dear Hyeri Ep 2 ratings rise in Korea as Kdrama gets an (expected) mixed bag of international ratings

ENA drama Dear Hyeri aired its second episode on Tuesday night to a nice increase in its rating — both nationwide in South Korea, and also with audiences in Seoul.

That ratings increase was from Episode 1’s already decent viewership of 2.02 percent nationwide to Dear Hyeri, Episode 2’s audience share of 2.16 percent.

Sure, that is only a small increase but, as a substantial number of Kdramas see a fall in ratings when their second episode airs, that Dear Hyeri saw a solid increase tends to bode well for the ENA drama’s future success.

That same small success also occurred in Seoul, where the Kdrama’s audience increased from 2.38 percent for Episode 1 to 2.44 percent for Episode 2.

International viewers’ ratings for Dear Hyeri

As for what international viewers currently think about Dear Hyeri, users of My Drama List are awarding the Kdrama a quite low 7.8 out of 10 after Episode 2.

However… you should never take any ratings seriously from My Drama List (MDL) users until at least the fourth or fifth episode has premiered, as the site unfortunately has a substantial number of trolls who deliberately downrate dramas.

Those downrated ratings are often given simply because something innocuous in a specific drama was “offensive” to them, because the actor paired with their favorite actor/idol in the drama isn’t “good enough” or because the story doesn’t give them the romance they crave in its first 20 minutes.

That’s why I always tell everyone to pay no attention to My Drama List ratings until enough episodes are out that many other viewers have rated the show as well.

Only then do they tend to be more honest. and quite a bit more accurate.

As for Viki, where Dear Hyeri is streaming internationally, over 200 viewers are currently giving the Kdrama an average rating of 9.3 out of 10, which, in my mind with just two episodes out may still be a little high but is still far more accurate than those over at MDL

Dear Hyeri stars Shin Hye Sun, Lee Jin Wook, Kang Hoon, and Jo Hye Joo. It airs every Monday and Tuesday on ENA and Genie TV in Korea.

The show’s next episode will air/stream on Monday, September 30th.
