My New Boss is Goofy could be one of my faves of 2023
The incredibly cute and very funny new anime series My New Boss is Goofy premiered yesterday, with an episode that flew by as it was just so darned sweet.
To celebrate the anime’s premiere, the opening animation has been released for the genuinely funny office comedy.
Along with the quirky introduction of all the main characters, it features the absolutely banging My New Boss is Goofy opening theme song — ‘Planeteria’ (プラネタリア) by Fujifabric — a Japanese rock band that has been around since 2000.
And a song that is catchy and get-up-and-danceable from its very first play, and with vocals by lead singer and guitarist Sōichirō Yamauchi that are hella good.
Along with the My New Boss is Goofy opening theme song, we also got an anime that, from the first episode at least, looks like it may just end up being one of the best of 2023.
Something that is truly surprising to me, as I am not usually a big fan of office comedies.
But My New Boss is Goofy is wonderfully written so far, genuinely funny, has lovely animation and features some of the sweetest and cutest men. (Yep, 23 minutes, and I’m already in love – with all of them).
The My New Boss is Goofy staff and cast are heavy hitters
My New Boss is Goofy (aka Atarashii Joushi wa Do Tennen in Japanese) features some pretty heavy hitters on its staff and cast as well, so it is no wonder the anime is so good.
It is directed by Noriyuki Abe (The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh and Bleach), with series composition by Masahiro Yokotani (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-).
Character designs (which are beautiful, by the way) are by Takahiro Yasuda (Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku and one of my absolute fave anime ever — Sekaiichi Hatsukoi Movie: Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai).
Studio A-1 Pictures (a helluva lot of amazing anime including Your Lie in April and The Seven Deadly Sins) is in charge of anime production (which is why it is so damned good!).
As for the main My New Boss is Goofy cast they are:
- Shirosaki is played by Yuuichirou Umehara (Klaus in Spy Classroom)
- Momose is voiced by Koutarou Nishiyama (Eitarou Oka in Re-Main)
- Hakuto is played by Hiro Shimono (Zenitsu Agatsuma in Demon Slayer)
- Mitsuo Aoyama is being voiced by Tomakazu Sugita (Rudeus in Mushoku Tensei)
- Aigo Kinjou is voiced by Jun Fukuyama (Yukio in Blue Exorcist)
My New Boss is Goofy is streaming on Crunchyroll outside Japan.
They explain the plot like this:
After his power-harassing boss broke his spirit and his health, Momose leaves his job to work at a new job in sales at an advertising agency. However, on the very first day of his new job, Momose is unable to move due to a stomachache caused by his past traumas.
“What should I do if my new boss also abuses his power?”
In the meantime, his new boss Shirosaki is out with him to see the clients. Just what exactly is Shirosaki going to do…?!This boss’s unexpectedly “goofy” nature will surely heal anyone!!
Watch the incredibly cute My New Boss is Goofy opening animation, and enjoy Planeteria’ by Fujifabric, that absolutely fabulous opening theme song that accompanies it.
You can also hear the song in full via Spotify below.
I suggest you put it on repeat like I have now done, because it is one of the best anime theme songs of 2023.
No ifs ands or buts.
