About Love poster drops – features Liu Yu Ning, Wang Zi Wen, Jiang Xin and others surrounded by roses

I have to admit, when this About Love poster popped up on Chinese Literature’s official Weibo account earlier today, I had to immediately do some research as, other than recognizing my man, Liu Yu Ning’s face on the poster, I didn’t know anything about the Chinese drama at all.

Come on, sometimes I miss things. Like everyone does.

So, after checking a few websites, here’s the story behind About Love (aka 玫瑰丛生).

And no, it’s not surprising I missed it, as the Chinese urban romance drama originally started out with the title Love Like a Cicada’s Wings, only to be changed to My Beloved One and then to About Love.

Let’s hope this one sticks, eh?

About Love production details

The new Chinese modern-day romance drama is based on the web manhua “Chan Nv” (蝉女), which is written by Gong Yuan Qian (宫缘乾).

It is directed by Yang Lei (The Legend of Heroes), and stars Wang Zi Wen (Never Too Late), Liu Yu Ning (The Prisoner of Beauty), and Jiang Xin (In The Name of Justice), with support actors that include Gu Jia Cheng (The Case Solver), Zhu Jia Qi (Under the Skin), Vivienne Tien (The Litchi Road) and Huang Zi Qi (Such a Good Love).

The About Love poster dropped on Chinese Literature’s Weibo account yesterday with the comment:

Love takes root and blossoms amidst a passionate sea of roses. In this game of love, what choices will they make?

As you might be able to pick up from that, yep, this one looks to be quite a bit more spicy than Liu Yu Ning’s usual historical romance series.

Its plot proves that:

As a “love appraiser”, Li Xiao Xi (played by Wang Zi Wen), helps women verify their lover’s fidelity by appearing beside them in various identities that play into the fantasies of men.

With her ability to destroy relationships, is she actually protecting women’s relationships or destroying them? Does she expose men’s lies, or is she creating situations to trap them into lying?

Filming began in August, 2023 and ended a couple of months later. So, yep, the Liu Yu Ning we will eventually get when the C-drama drops is one of his younger versions.

No word yet on when About Love will premiere, but with Tencent also promoting it, it isn’t likely to be long.
