YOUKU has released a new poster via their official X account for the upcoming Chinese drama Black and White Bureau (黑白局). (see below)
It follows the previous release of two posters for each lead actor dressed as their character. (above)
The latest Black and White Bureau poster features stars Yang Xuwen (aka William Yang) and Wang Yanhui standing on a railway track and looking as if they are assessing a problematic situation.
YOUKU also commented about the C-drama:
Bound by duty, they fight side by side. With faith as their torch, they guard peace without fear.
Meanwhile, while not much information has been reported on by the English-language entertainment news media, the Chinese media has been releasing significant details about Black and White Bureau and, yep, this one definitely sounds to my liking.
What is the Black and White Bureau plot?
If you enjoy a good crime thriller, from its plot synopsis, this one reads like it may just hit the spot. It goes like this:
Zhan Peng’s father died in the line of duty, and from a young age, Zhan Peng (played by William Yang) saw him as a role model, so eventually becomes a police officer at the Pingzhang Railway Public Security Bureau.
Due to a drug trafficking case, he is temporarily assigned to work at the Xiatong Railway Police Department to investigate.
After investigation, Sun Bozhao, the manager of a transport company, emerges as a prime suspect. But Sun Bozhao happens to be the nephew of Tu Hongjiang (Wang Yanhui), a police officer at the Xiatong Railway Police Department.
Just as suspicion begins to fall on Tu Hongjiang, however, he proactively presents evidence that confirms Sun Bozhao’s guilt. Thus, turning in his own nephew.
It is then that Zhan Peng decides to set aside his prejudice and become Tu Hongjiang’s apprentice, with the two joining forces to investigate further.
At this point, Sun Bozhao reveals that the mastermind behind the operation was Han Weidong, a close friend of Tu Hongjiang. However, right after Han Weidong promises his daughter Han Xin he will turn himself in, he suspiciously commits suicide.
All clues now point to an old case from 20 years ago.
I just won’t give you the final paragraph of that description, or it will spoil the entire drama.
Black and White Bureau ended filming in September 2024, and is set to air 30 episodes.
On May 8, 2025, it was announced the Chinese drama has been selected for YOUKU’s upcoming 2025 content lineup, so we will be getting it this year. Yay!
