Delicious in Dungeon trailer has beautiful art style – Watch Laios, Chilchuck and Marcille live, breathe and EAT

The upcoming Delicious in Dungeon anime series is one I have been keeping my eye on after binge-reading 12 volumes of the superb manga the anime is based on earlier this year.

Today’s release of an official Delicious in Dungeon trailer from Netflix then couldn’t have arrived soon enough.

Especially as just one watch through has made me happier than anything as, not only does it look like the Delicious in Dungeon anime sticks closely to the original manga series, but the art style looks gorgeous and isn’t it wonderful to finally be able to see Laios, Chilchuck and Marcille live, breathe and… eat.

Throw in that the anime production is by Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Darling in the FranXX) and this one looks spectacular.

What is Delicious in Dungeon?

The Delicious in Dungeon anime (aka Dungeon Meshi in Japan) is a Netflix original series, which is based on the hit manga written and illustrated by Ryouko Kui.

There are currently 12 volumes out in both Japanese and English, with a 13th one on its way soon.

The manga is being published in English by Yen Press, who has this to say about its plot:

When young adventurer Laios and his company are attacked and soundly thrashed by a dragon deep in a dungeon, the party loses all its money and provisions…and a member!

They’re eager to go back and save her, but there is just one problem: If they set out with no food or coin to speak of, they’re sure to starve on the way!

But Laios comes up with a brilliant idea: “Let’s eat the monsters!” Slimes, basilisks, and even dragons…none are safe from the appetites of these dungeon-crawling gourmands!

And, while the just-released Delicious in Dungeon trailer makes it look like the anime is all sweetness and light and, therefore, superficial, it isn’t at all.

Once Delicious in Dungeon gets going, you will become invested in these wonderful characters, the situations they get themselves into and, of course, the food.

Delicious in Dungeon is being directed by Yoshihiro Miyajima (SSSS.Dynazenon Movie), with Kimiko Ueno (Eternal Boys) in charge of series composition/story editing, and Naoki Takeda (Chief Animation Director of BNA: Brand New Animal) in charge of character design.

As I said previously, Trigger is in charge of anime production.

Watch the just-released Delicious in Dungeon trailer and you will see quickly how gorgeous the art style is, and how much work Trigger has put into the animation.

The anime itself premieres on Netflix in January, 2024, and I couldn’t be more excited for this.
