Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born teaser has Kim Tae Ri going from home to stardom

A new teaser trailer for the upcoming tvN drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born has been released showing Kim Tae Ri going from her small 1956 village of Mokpo to stardom on a Seoul stage.

In between, she trains and rehearses so she can become the best traditional theater actress it is possible to be. (watch below)

What is the plot of Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born?

Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born follows Kim Tae Ri as Yoon Jeong Nyeon, a talented young singer who is determined to become both a singing sensation and rich.

But that requires leaving her home town of Mokpo and heading to Seoul where she can get the training and opportunities she needs to make it big.

The drama stars an almost all-female cast, with some of the Korean drama industries’ heaviest hitters cast in the main roles alongside Kim Tae Ri — Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, Jung Eun Chae, Kim Yoon Hye.

Yep, that is one stellar cast.

Girls’ Love plot erased from the drama

Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born is based on the webtoon Jeong Nyeon, which was written by Seo Irae and illustrated by Namon.

Sadly, the Korean drama adaptation has removed the Girls’ Love (GL) plot, and the main GL character/love interest, and reportedly given that character’s scenes to other characters instead.

A much loved male character in the webtoon also seems to be gone in the tvN adaptation.

I doubt either of those things will go down well with the fans of the original webtoon, with some GL fans already warning others to not watch it or talk about the Korean drama on social media.

With the drama not featuring a heterosexual romance either, or few men in its cast, that could alienate another large percentage of Kdrama fans who often tune in for their favorite young actor.

I am also surprised that the authors would have allowed an adaptation of their story when much of the original story has apparently been removed.

That being said, if you are interested in watching Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born (the cast is superb), it begins airing on tvN in South Korea on October 12th.
