The Korean supernatural dark fantasy drama Hellbound 2 premiered on Netflix on October 25th and, just two days after its release, has already climbed high up the Netflix Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart.
Data via the Netflix platform Tudum shows Hellbound 2 grabbing 1.7 million views during the first three days of its release.
Tudum is also reporting 8.3 million total hours of the K-drama were watched during those three days — October 25th, 26th and 27th.
Not bad for a supernatural horror series about a world gone wrong. A genre that, let’s face it, doesn’t tend to appeal to everyone.
Hellbound 2 performed particularly well on Netflix in Asia, with 7 countries — Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam — having it in their Top 10 most-watched shows of any kind last week.
Congrats to the cast and crew, eh?
Hellbound 2 cast and plot details
Hellbound 2 follows on from the first season of the horror series, which premiered on Netflix in 2021. Yep, we had to wait almost three years for its sequel.
Season 2, however, is worth it.
The latest season of the Korean drama stars Kim Hyun Joo, Kim Sung Cheol (who replaced Yoo Ah In who is, sadly, currently serving prison time for drug use), Kim Shin Rok, Hong Eui Joon, and Yang Ik June.
Netfix itself describes the plot like this:
Lawyer Min Hye Jin of Sodo, The New Truth Society, and the Arrowheads get entangled anew amidst the sudden resurrections of The New Truth’s Chairman Jung Jin Su and Park Jung Ja.
Viewers will tell you, it is quite a bit more complicated than that.
If you watched Season 1 (and, if you didn’t, you should), the second season explores some of the same themes as the first.
How do people react to things spiraling completely out of their control? How can they live a still-meaningful life, while much around them is madness? Is it really divine justice, or something much more nefarious?
Will your beliefs help you navigate through the craziness? Are they strong enough to survive it? Is there any way to cause this madness to end?
All six episodes of Hellbound 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
